Vinh & Diep : Hanoi Wedding

Two weeks ago we photographed Vinh And Diep’s Hanoi wedding. Vinh is a worldly young man who studied in France, Canada and the US, and its remarkably romantic that he married Diep, the girl next door (or, the girl from about a block and a half away).

The weather gods were not smiling on us, and we had to improvise between shooting in some pretty tight, crowded interiors and then outside along some pretty soggy streets as Vinh and his entourage rode bicycles through the traffic over to Diep’s family home. Of course, once we got everyone indoors at the Sheraton for the reception, the rain stopped, but c’est la vie.

Thanks to Diep and the girls for getting everything organized, even with some difficult last minute twists!

VWP, another year older….

It is just over a year since we photographed together as VWP, and to celebrate this we have a wedding photography exhibition at Highway4 Restaurant and Bar, 5 Hang Tre, Hanoi. Running from 7th to 28th October we are displaying hundreds of images in collages on their ground floor.

Every single wedding has been a pleasure to be involved in, from China Beach in Danang to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Hoi An, Halong Bay and Luang Prabang; The Metropole and Inter Continental Hotels in Hanoi and the privilege of photographing The Prime Minister’s daughter’s wedding at The Caravelle in Ho Chi Minh City.

Upcoming dates include new venues for us; Khao Lak in Thailand, Siem Reap in Cambodia and the stunning Six Senses Hideaway near Nha Trang, Vietnam. This month we will be at The Park Hyatt in Saigon and The Sheraton in Hanoi.

Aidan: This was one of the most fun weddings we have shot, full of games and entertainment, and back to the stunning Park Hyatt Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Julian was caught covering Typhoon Ketsana in Central Vetnam, so we called in Francois from NOI pictures to help out with the day’s coverage. We only wish we could have joined Cynthia and Michael on their honeymoon in The Maldives!

Natalia & Jaroslaw : Hanoi & Halong Bay Wedding

Aidan: Natalia and Jaroslaw loved Hanoi so much when they visited two years ago that they brought their families over from Poland to get married here. A relaxing day cruising in Halong Bay was followed by a cyclo ride to a pagoda in The Botanical Gardens for a beautiful ceremony by the lake, with dinner at The Metropole. The wedding was made official by The Polish Embassy, their first ever wedding in Hanoi and champagne at The Opera House.

Weddings are big business in Vietnam. The global economic meltdown hasn’t deterred young couples in Hanoi and Saigon from spending money on lavish affairs. These images are from a wedding fashion show in Hanoi, where industry vendors showed off their latest wares for the 2009 wedding season. And if the designers are to be believed, Vietnamese brides will be walking down the aisle wearing rhinestone-studded bustiers and feathered skirts….

Aidan & Justin: Aditya and Linda flew up from Indonesia to have their engagement photos shot in Hanoi and Halong Bay, just as the weather up here started to turn favorable after a winter of soggy, foggy photo sessions. Special thanks to associate snapper Justin who stepped as Julian was out the country collecting his photojournalist award.

Guilhem & Huyen : Hanoi engagement shoot

Tour guide, Bar owner and Minsk Club footballer Guilhem and his fiancee Huyen braved the heat on Sunday as Summer hit Hanoi. Some say it reached 39′C in the early afternoon but the couple kept smiling as they wiped the sweat from their brows.

Staying away from the clicheed Opera House and Botanical Gardens which can get very crowded with future brides, the iconic Long Bien Railway Bridge made a perfect backdrop for the warm afternoon light.

Unfortunately we won’t be able to cover their an hoi and wedding in Huyen’s hometown next month, but hope to catch up with them soon in Ket Noi, an ethnic bar in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

Thang and Chi : The Inter Continental Hotel Hanoi

Aidan: The winter weddings continue in Hanoi, and the Interncontinental is fast becoming the most popular hotel in town for photoshoots. And for good reason – Thang and Chi absolutely loved shooting here, and had no problem getting comfortable in front of the camera in these beautiful surroundings. We’re really looking forward to the wedding at the Sheraton in Hanoi next week!
